ADAPP: THE HEALTH CONDITION OF SAID METINPUR IS SERIOUS
News1Advocacy Committee for Iranian Azerbaijani Political Prisoners (ADAPP) has announced that the pressure implemented upon Said Metinpur, who is a well-known Azerbaijani journalist and human rights advocate, is increasing day by day and his request to be treated in a hospital other than a prison has been rejected. It has also been mentioned that he has been removed from the political prisoners section and has been transferred where fiscal prisoners are being kept in Evin prison and phone conversations have been limited in this new section. According to the information, contrary to the announcement the prison management do not allow Metinpur’s wife for visits.

Metinpur, who has been sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in Evin prison, has been suffering from heart and lungs since September 2009. His request to be transferred to a hospital has been rejected by judicial authorities. Metinpur does not accept the anti-depressant treatment, which has been proposed to him, on the grounds of no test have been implemented on him for diagnosis. International Amnesty Organization, Journalists without Borders and Front for Protection of Journalists (CPJ) published emergency action reports on the said person. They called in the report for the unconditional release of Metinpur whom they define as prisoner of conscious. Metinpur’s wife Aliye Taheri has been concerned for his husband’s health condition since her visit on September 26, 2009.

Metinpur has been accused of “being in contact with the foreigners” and “propagating against the Islamic regime” because of his participation to a conference in Turkey on human rights and his visits to Azerbaijan. However he was in Iran when that conference was held in Turkey. Despite Iranian authorities’ claims that Iran is the freest country in the world, Metinpur’s right to acquire health service, which is one of the basic human rights, is being hindered.
