 (IS) TEHRAN MOVING?
News1The Iranian leadership decided to move a part of the city’s population to other regions putting forth the population density and the distorted urbanization of the capital Tehran. In a meeting participated by 400 district governors in the Ministry of Interior, measures aimed at dividing Tehran into 12 district governorates and moved outside the city were reviewed. “A part of the students in universities known to host protest demonstrations will be sent outside Tehran and military factories will be removed outside the city,” stated the First Deputy President. The Iranian Council of Ministers, on the other hand, decided to move the headquarters of 326 public companies based in Tehran.

The security vulnerabilities of Tehran against social unrest has always occupied the agenda of the Iranian leadership. Meanwhile, President Mahmood Ahmedinejad confused the people by saying last month that “a hue earthquake might happen in Tehran”. As is known, Ahmedinejad said that “5 million people need to leave the town.” The transfer of archive documents and academic studies in the Tehran Al Zahra University out of Tehran because of the dangers of the potential earthquake increased the related concerns. Authorities state that more than 200 thousand employees will be posted in towns outside Tehran and that the University of Tehran, which educates 30 thousand people, will be moved out of the city.

On the other hand, by the instructions of the Spiritual Leader Khamaney, a Crisis Committee was formed to prepare for contingencies and war. It has also been claimed that a possible military attack against Iran might take place in the summer of 2010. Experts believe that the Iranian Leadership has come up with the earthquake issue so as to gain time against increasing external pressures and embargoes.
