Yörüklerde Aile ve Kadın

Family and Woman in Yoruks- (Daily life in Yoruks “Symposium Announcement”)

It is known that national structure analysis have a great importance in determining our culture’s dynamics. Being investigated of  Turkish clan system which forms essential axis of our social structure, will be informative for the researchs in national culture field. The place and importance of Anatolia nomad  culture in our public culture is a very important subject for us. When Yoruk like is researched as a whole, it is seen that there isn’t “ a crowd, shapeless formed groups”. In Yoruk life, a very soft world view is sensed. They could easily change some of the their inflexible views such as giving up tent and beginning to live at home that is founded with the project of engineer, giving up bristle weaver and choosing to use bed and table.  Yoruks had adapted to settled life, agricultural culture, village and city life easily and in a very few time. This situation is very interesting and observable. We can show this culture change with such a scheme:

*** Trousseau, console table, wardrobe has taken the place of the place that clothes placed in tente.

*** Cushion, cedar has leaved its place to divan, chair, armchair.

*** Ground table has leaved its place to table, chair

***Meals were eaten on tray, but now on porcelain plate.

We see that social organization is perfect in past Turkish migrants. In migrants, religious resignation and being content with what they have, generosity based on custom and tradition characteristics are seen.

Yoruks are definetly circumcised their sons. They give milk, oil, bristles in payment for the circumcision to circumcisers. Yoruks who like cleanliness and brilliance, make their weddings usually in sheltered place at the and of the summer. They are very hospitable. They surely present to their guests lamb or kid meat. For the person who goes to military service, kill an animal as a sacrifice and give its meat yo neighbours. For the person who comes back  from the military service healthy, vow is cutten and is given to neighbours.

         Place of woman in Yoruks

*Woman has a great place in Yoruk’s life. The oldest woman manages the tent. Woman is the pole of the house. Woman gives birth of the child, woman treats guest, woman weave kilim, tent and saddlebag. Woman cooks felt. Woman takes milk from animal. Woman sews clothes. She makes fog smoke in tent. In summary, Yoruk woman has five skills in her five fingers. She is a unique example of love, productivity and fidelity.

*Carpets and kilims which migrant Turkish girls who didn’t see school and medresseh are very valuable. They have the value of art. They represents a big moral culture.

*When a guest with horse comes to being a guest, woman welcomes him. She takes the weapon and ties the horse. She prepares the most comfortable bed to guest and gives coffee and airan.

*Yoruks are not conservative people. Woman and man speak easily in mountains and hills. Young girl goes to put sheep and goat out to pasture with young boy. A stain doesn’t come to honor.
